President Obama has tasked Congress with changing education laws before the beginning of the next school year.
This can be a good thing or a bad thing. The current law looked good on paper and made the right noises to be accepted, but there was and is extremely inadequate funding and the goals were ridiculous in practice. But since the penalties under the current law are all too real, the focus for school administrators has become “Raise the SCORES!!!”
The goal of education is to prepare our children to take our place in the world, NOT to be able to choose the correct answer from 4-5 possibilities. If you want to measure the success of a child, measure reality, not a stupid test score.
